We are proud to share that a full four Aboveit developers competed in the Norwegian AI Championship 2026, and all four finished among the top 10% of 3,000 participants. Not one, not two – but all four!

The four participants sat down after work and worked on this throughout the weekend. To the delight of both them and Aboveit, it was a great success.

– Aboveit has always had a culture where we explore new technologies and work methods early on. In the development process, AI is an integrated part of the daily work of all our developers, something we started working with 3 years ago. It is therefore very gratifying, but not surprising, that the participants from Aboveit performed exceptionally well in the Norwegian AI Championship, says Joakim Lehn, who is the Area Director for System Development at Aboveit.

The Norwegian AI Championship 2026 is Norway's largest AI competition, with a prize pool of one million kroner and physical hubs across the country. The competition gathered students, professionals, and hobbyists in what the organizers describe as «an ambitious new beginning that unites the entire AI community in Norway» – and with 3,000 participants, there is little doubt that they have succeeded in doing just that.

Aboveit's four participants all delivered impressive performances:

  • Hans Christian Hoff – 15th place
  • Jakob Tiller – 42nd place
  • Brage Ersdal – 108th place
  • Sander Ulset – 256th place

The competition consisted of three tasks: an AI agent for accounting tasks in Tripletex, product recognition on store shelves for NorgesGruppen Data, and Astar Island - where they had to predict the development of a simulated Viking civilization over time. Jakob took first place in the Astar Island task.

I am very proud of Hans Christian, Jakob, Brage, and Sander; the results come from a combination of curiosity, continuous learning, and a willingness to challenge themselves.
Joakim Lehn, Area Director System Development, Aboveit

AI is developing at a pace few other technologies have before, and the ability to understand and utilize these tools is becoming increasingly important – regardless of industry.

At Aboveit, we take this seriously. We continuously invest in professional development, and encourage and support our employees in staying updated on the latest in AI and technology.
